The “Edge” spec will tell you about how sharp a blade is. This info is provided to give you a good idea of the product being presented, the one you receive may vary from the specific one we took measurements of. Please note: Due to the hand made nature of these items, all specs should be considered as approximates. A very high POB will result in a sword that feels heavier than it actually is and is difficult to wield. In general, a low POB results in good point control well suited to a thrusting blade, while a higher POB adds impact to a cleaving blade. A POB of 3”- 5” usually results in a well balanced sword, but does depend on the type of sword. In practice however, there are many reasons why you may not want this for a particular sword. In theory a sword with a POB of 0” is perfectly balanced. A number of 0” would balance exactly at the guard, while a negative number will have a POB in the hilt itself. It refers to the point on the blade where the sword achieves a perfect balance. stands for Point Of Balance, this is measured in inches from the hilt down the blade. We can no longer weed out the “blemished” items from this product as the majority of them come this way. Please Note: Although these items are brand new & coming from Cold Steel some of the sayas /scabbards may suffer from minor scuffs & scrapes. The sageo is knotted brown cord and the sword comes with a embroidered sword bag. The tip is capped with an iron fitting with a detailed crane in a style to match the hilt fittings. The saya scabbard is carved from wood and given a glossy, black lacquered coat for a finish. A brown ito grip wrap with a pair of brass menuki fitted beneath the ito folds completes the katana. The wooden tsuka grip has been channeled and fitted with panels of genuine rayskin. The tsuba, as well as the fuchi collar and kashira pommel cap, are all crafted from iron and embellished with 24 karat gold leaf detailing. The blade spine is solid and has omitted a bo-hi groove in order to retain the extra blade mass to aid in powering it through hard-hitting strikes and decisive cuts. The blade of Cold Steels Mizutori Katana is forged from 1095 high carbon steel and has been differentially clay-tempered to endow the blade with a hardened cutting edge coupled with a shock-absorbing body and spine. Thus it is a fitting motif for the katana of a traditional and honorable samurai warrior. A symbol for longevity, aged wisdom and loyalty, the crane is traditionally believed to live for a thousand years in Japan and is held above other birds in its reverence and honorable dignity.
